This week in Kindergarten we are learning…

 

 

 

Learning Targets for the week:

 

 

Literacy:  

 

-I can read 92 sight words.

-I can retell the beginning, middle and end of a story.

-I can ask/answer questions about details in a story.

-I can name 55 letter names in 1 minute.

-I can name 49 letter sounds in 1 minute.

 

Writers Workshop: 

 

-I can write using our sight words: I, see, go, my, at, like, it, to, in, a, and, can, for, is, not, the, be, me, you, are, up, here, out, have, so, eat, we, ran, yes, no, big, she, he, into, do, want, get, that, good, jump, run, ate, help, down, all, one, two, three, four, five, soon, too, they, this., am, funny, look, but, with, what, will, went, who, where, saw, away, come, little, did, under, came, make, new, ride, say.

-I can write with a capital letter to begin my sentence and the word I as well as put spaces between words.

-I can use punctuation to end my sentence.

-I can write neatly.

-I can write sentences that make sense.

 

Math:

-I can use words to compare objects by length and weight.

-I can put objects in order by length and width.

SMART GOAL:

 

In kindergarten we will work on a series of "SMART Goals".  These are short term (5 week) goals that help us insure that each student is on track to meet the end of the year goals.  SMART goal #5 is: COMING SOON.

 

 

LLanguage Arts – Our sight words this week are what, will, went.. Our phonemic awareness skill this week is segmenting sounds. Our reading strategy for the week is Stretchy Snake – Stretch the word out slowly and put the sounds together to figure out the word. Our comprehension strategy for the week is story mapping (plot, problem, solution). Our theme for the week is where we live. Math – This week we will have a follow up lesson about dividing objects in half. We will create class number story books, make shapes using toothpicks and marshmallows and learn about the quarter. Continue to practice coin identification and values with your child.Writing – This week we will begin a weather journal. Units – This week we will learn about where we live. Looking Ahead…. This week our theme will be winter holidays. Math – This week in math we will practice addition, graphing, and patterning. We will continue to work on putting numbers in order, patterning, writing what numbers come before and after, and ten frames. We will also play the “Top-It” card game.Writing – This week the kids will finish creating their own version of “The Twelve Days of Christmas.”Units – This week our health lesson continues to focus on empathy training.
